With every new batch of Samuel Adams Utopias, Jim and the brewers challenge themselves to break new boundaries and changing people’s perception of what beer can be. This year’s batch is aged in an array of different finishing barrels previously used for Spanish sherry and Portuguese port, imparting earthy flavors inherent to complex European spirits. Meant to be savored like vintage port or fine cognac, this strong, rich, uncarbonated dark beer is best served as a two-ounce pour at room temperature in a snifter glass. The limited-edition 2011 Samuel Adams Utopias is bottled in numbered, ceramic brew kettle- shaped decanters.
